Media & Communications Advisor - Alfred Health

Signing on to a role as Media and Communications Advisor at Alfred Health on a 12-month contract, James immediately set about applying his diverse range of skills and experiences to expanding the external communications presence of Alfred Health, particularly on social media.

In the period of his employment, James was single-handedly responsible for more than half of Alfred Health’s posts to social media, including contributing to its experimentation with new ways of social media communications, such as via social-first video.

In addition to contributing original content, James honed and developed relationships with external media stakeholders to work on various media projects around the health service, as well as being involved internally in communications campaigns, assisting with media conferences and events, counselling health experts on media engagement, events photography and more. \

An Extraordinary Nursing Team: Emergency Nurses at Work

In the final months of his contract role as Media & Communications Advisor at Alfred Health, James pitched, produced and edited a video project highlighting the variety of roles, responsibilities and personalities of nurses working in one of Melbourne’s busiest emergency departments. This process involved James filming with emergency nurses at work within this department, sensitively navigating the often chaotic environment to produce an end product that best represented the extraordinary nursing staff who devote their lives to helping others in these settings.
